As an aspiring model and designer social media has become increasingly more important for getting exposure and making industry connections. Many of the people I've worked with for photoshoots and even the job I have right now is because they found me on Instagram! For this to be such a powerful tool the new algorithm changes have a lot of people worried.
There have been tons of changes to the algorithm such as comment restrictions and hashtag bans. The most noticeable change is when you post something on Instagram, it may only be exposed to 10% of your audience! The new algorithm gauges the interest of your audience to determine whether or not it should be shown to the rest of your followers. So if your new post gets enough engagement right off the bat, it will be released and shown to the remaining 90% of your followers.
Instagram is now thought to be restricting exposure based off of YOUR engagement. Apparently now you should respond to comments left on your posts within 60 minutes. Otherwise, your post's visibility might gradually decrease!
These changes are a bit daunting considering the main reason most people post is to gain exposure outside of their following and gain more followers. There are a few ways around the algorithm, however its still very difficult to deal with these changes as a budding influencer. HERE is a link to some tips for beating the new algorithm.
