Is There a Link Between Hair Dyes/Relaxers and Breast Cancer?

Short answer: it's possible. According to a study of 4,000+ women that was published in the journal Carcinogenesis, black women who used dark or black hair dyes had a 51% higher chance and white women who used chemical relaxers and straighteners ere 74% more likely to develop breast cancer. One of the authors acknowledged that the study showed a link but did not prove a connection.
So should women avoid hair dyes and relaxers? That answer is up in the air. The American Cancer Society has suggested that more definitive research be completed because other studies have shown no link. Until then, it's probably best to check the ingredients and learn more about potential long-term effects.
